Church leaders, congregations and charities unite to demand urgent action from UK Government to end illegal occupation of Palestine.

• More than a dozen cross-denominational organisations in England, Scotland and Wales launch Time to Act campaign to pressure UK Government. 

• Supporters across the UK to lobby MPs calling for a just peace for all who call the Holy Land home.

• Theologian and writer Revd Dr Munther Isaac, Director of the Bethlehem Institute of Peace and Justice and Pastor of Hope Evangelical Lutheran Church in Ramallah,is supporting the movement. 

Pax Christi International expresses its deep concern regarding the situation in the Ush Ghurab area on the eastern edge of Beit Sahour, where plans for a new Israeli settlement and related military orders further entrench the occupation and threaten significant areas of land belonging to the local community.

We understand these plans as part of a wider and well-documented pattern of settlement expansion and land appropriation in the occupied Palestinian territory. This pattern fragments Palestinian territory, restricts freedom of movement and development, and gravely undermines the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination. It contributes to the consolidation of an unlawful situation on the ground, in violation of international law.

Pax Christi International recalls that a just and sustainable peace cannot be built through settlement expansion and the entrenchment of occupation. Therefore, we call upon:

Taybeh village under attack: live shootings and assaults while trying to extinguish a bonfire

Yesterday evening, Tuesday, at about eight thirty, we were confronted with a new attack. It was complex, alarming, and difficult to understand or justify.

The events started with a fire, mainly in a large area of Jabal Al-Masis area opposite the gas station. Palestinian civil defense crews were initially prevented from reaching the site due to incomplete the required security coordination, which allowed the fires to spread and threaten neighboring lands and properties.

In the face of this danger, a number of the town’s youth stepped up to help put out the fire by bringing a water tanker to the area. But they, instead of allowing them to perform their humanitarian duty, have been subjected to siege and ban by settlers. Then things escalated when another group of young men were assaulted.
